Our Vision

바이오브 𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬는 2010년대 이래 한국에서 정치적 슬로건으로서의 ‘융합(融合)’이 만연해진 가운데, 학제 간 위계와 배타성으로 인해 실질적인 융합이 이루어지기 어려운 현실을 비판적으로 바라보며 2022년에 설립되었습니다. 바이오브 𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬는 현재의 학제와 자본주의적 분업 구조에 익숙해진 사고방식, 그로써 구축된 인위적인 구분 체계에 구애받지 않을 것을 선언합니다. 회사명 바이오브 𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬는 바이오테크와 예술을 비롯한 다양한 분야들을 사랑으로 연결하고 포용하려는 의지를 담고 있습니다.

𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬 was founded in 2022 with a critical and anti-disciplinary stance, responding to the challenges of “convergence” in Korea. Despite the rise of “convergence” as a political buzzword since the 2010s, interdisciplinary collaboration has been hindered by entrenched hierarchies and exclusivity within academic fields. 𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬 seeks to challenge the conventional mindset shaped by the current academic system and the capitalist division of labor and education; rejecting the artificial boundaries that have been constructed between disciplines. The name 𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬 reflects a vision of inclusivity, aiming to bridge diverse fields—such as biotechnology and the arts—through a spirit of love.

What We Do

바이오브 𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬는 웹, 확장현실(XR), 인공지능(AI) 기술 기반의 연구와 시스템 개발을 수행합니다. 바이오브 𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬의 연구개발(R&D)은 생물다양성과 신경다양성 개념을 토대로 (비)인간의 건강과 복지에 기여할 것을 목표로 합니다. 이를 위해, 우리는 1) 의료, 재활, 치료적 경험과 2) 자기 표현 및 자기 주도 학습을 통한 능동적 노화를 지원하는 3D 인터랙티브 시스템을 설계, 개발, 평가합니다. 바이오브 𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬는 국내 대학 병원 및 생명과학 및 공학 연구기관과 협업하며 다양한 연령층과 장애, 신경 유형, 생물 종의 니즈가 반영된 헬스케어 시스템을 연구해온 바 있습니다.

𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬 specializes in research and system development that leverage Web, Extended Reality (XR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. Our R&D aims to contribute to the (non-)human health and well-being, as inspired by the concepts of biodiversity and neurodiversity. For this, we design, develop, and evaluate 3D interactive systems that support 1) medical, rehabilitative, and therapeutic experiences, and 2) active aging through self-expression and self-directed learning. In collaborations with university hospitals and/or bioscience and biotechnology research institutes, we have prototyped and iterated systems that reflect the needs of diverse age groups, disabilities, neurotypes and animal species.

동일한 기술을 활용하여, 바이오브 𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬는 예술계의 창작자들을 위한 시스템을 개발하거나 공동 제작합니다. 바이오브 𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬 프로덕션(Production)은 무엇보다도 기술에 익숙치 않거나 접근성이 낮은 예술가들의 창작 의도를 이해하고, 이를 기술적 용어로 번역하며, 그로써 창작자들의 기술 활용 역량을 강화하는 데에 집중합니다. 결과물들은 국립현대미술관, 서울문화재단 및 서울시 지원 전시, 그 외 국공립 공연장 등지에서 선보인 바 있습니다.

Using the same technologies, 𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬 develops or co-produces systems for creators in the artworld. 𝑩𝒊𝑶𝑽𝑬 Production is primarily focused on understanding the creative intentions of those who have less familiarity or accessibility to technology; translating these intentions into technical languages; and empowering creators in effectively utilizing the technologies. The outcomes of these collaborations have been exhibited and/or performed at venues such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, exhibitions supported by the Seoul Cultural Foundation and Seoul City, and various national and public performance theaters.
